Swayambhunath stupa - Places to Come to see in Nepal. Swayambhunath (Sometimes named Swoyambhunath) is an old holy complex atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu metropolis. It is also known as the Monkey Temple as there are sacred monkeys living in parts of the holy place in the north-west.
The Swayambhunath complex consists of a stupa, a diversity of shrines and temples, some dating stand behind to the Licchavi time. A Tibetan monastery, museum and library are more current additions. The stupa has Buddha's eyes and eyebrows painted on.
